Description
We were driving along the coast near Thala Beach when the road suddenly straightened, revealing a breathtaking corridor of palms. Over 600 palms stood in perfect rows on either side, their tall trunks swaying gently in the breeze, framed by distant rainforest-covered mountains. The scene felt like stepping into a natural cathedral, quiet, ordered, and alive.
This was no wild accident of nature. In the 1970s, Rob and Oonagh Prettejohn transformed a once-degraded sugarcane farm into this remarkable grove, planting each palm with care and vision. Decades later, the landscape stands as one of the most photogenic roads in Far North Queensland.
With special permission, I walked through the field, waiting for light to filter softly between the trees and for stillness to settle. The moment came, and the scene was captured. A pathway lined with time, intention, and nature’s quiet rhythm.
Photographed on location in Palm Field, Thala Beach Nature Reserve, Queensland. A moment of stillness, preserved for your space.
