Sky High Over Burleigh Heads
It was one of those classic Gold Coast spring days—warm sunshine, no wind, and a sky so blue it looked like it had been freshly painted. I headed to Burleigh Heads just after lunch drone in hand, knowing the conditions were perfect for flying.
I launched the drone and watched as it rose steadily, climbing higher and higher until it reached the legal limit—400 feet above the world.
The view was breathtaking.
To the north, the coastline stretched all the way to Main Beach, the city skyline shimmering in the distance like a dream of glass and light. The water was crystal clear, shades of turquoise and deep blue swirling in gentle patterns just offshore. The waves below, carving lines into the ocean around Burleigh Headland.
I slowly rotated the drone, taking in the full sweep of the landscape—Burleigh’s green headland in the foreground, the endless ocean to the east, and the shining skyscrapers of Surfers Paradise and Main Beach rising from the land like monuments to the modern world. Nature and city in perfect balance.
Snapping photos from that height felt like bottling a moment of serenity—untouched, expansive, free. Each image captured the scale, the light, and the energy of the coast in springtime. It was peaceful up there, away from the crowds and noise, just the steady hum of the drone and the silent beauty of the Gold Coast stretched out below.
As I brought the drone back down, I glanced at the screen, already knowing I had something special. A slice of sky, sand, and sea from a perspective few get to witness. A reminder of how lucky we are to live in a place where paradise is everywhere and I am lucky enough to be able to capture it from just 400 feet above.
