The drive out to Clandulla Cottages & Farmstay was quiet and golden, the afternoon sun stretching long across the countryside. I’d packed light for this shoot—just the essentials—and as I cruised through winding backroads, windows down, warm air rolling in, I could already feel this wedding was going to be something special.
It was an intimate ceremony—just the bride, groom, a handful of family and friends, and the kind of peaceful stillness only the bush can offer. Nestled among rolling paddocks and rustic timber cottages, the venue had a quiet charm about it, like time moved slower out here. The bride glowed in a simple, elegant gown, the groom in a relaxed suit. No stress, no fuss—just real love and the sound of birds overhead.
After the ceremony beneath a shady gum tree, we wandered through the paddocks for portraits. Then came the surprise—the bride and groom hand fed a young joey kangaroo. The bride’s eyes lit up instantly, and so did my camera.
A bride, a groom, and a joey, standing in the warm light of late afternoon—it felt like something out of a bush fairytale. I snapped quietly as they laughed, fed the joey, and stole glances at each other that said everything words couldn’t.
Just as the light dipped behind the hills, painting the sky in strokes of orange and yellow, something else magical happened.
A lone horse wandered over from the far paddock.
Not hurried. Not startled. Just curious. Drawn to the quiet energy between them.
It stood just a few metres away, silhouetted against the sunset, ears perked, tail flicking lazily.
I raised my camera slowly and captured the moment.
No posing. No setup. Just nature and timing.
Driving home in the dark later that evening, dust on my boots and memory cards full, I couldn’t help but smile. I’ve shot weddings in chapels, vineyards, city rooftops—but this… this was different.
Clandulla Cottages & Farmstay gave them a wedding wrapped in stillness and sunlight—and gave me a story I’ll never forget.
