Description
Traveling from Australia to Paris is no small feat,16,000 kilometres, several time zones, and a few in-flight films later, I finally arrived in the City of Love. But this wasn’t just another stop on my photography journey. This was the destination: the Louvre Museum.
Ranked as the most visited museum in the world, with 8.7 million visitors annually, the Louvre isn’t just famous, it’s monumental. Spanning over 73,000 square meters and holding a staggering estimated value of $45 billion, it’s a place where art, culture, and history collide on an epic scale.
I’ve photographed countless landmarks across the globe, but there’s something truly surreal about standing in the courtyard of the Louvre. The sharp angles of the iconic glass pyramid slice through the air, contrasting beautifully with the ornate façades of the centuries-old palace behind it. It’s where ancient and modern meet and it’s every photographer’s dream.
But capturing it wasn’t as simple as point and shoot.
With millions of visitors passing through each year, finding a quiet moment is like catching lightning in a bottle. I returned at different times early mornings, blue hour, even at night, waiting for the light, the mood, and the crowd to align. And eventually, they did. In the middle of a summer evening.
Photographing the Louvre wasn’t just about capturing a structure, it was about honouring a place that holds the world’s artistic legacy. It was about chasing a moment of stillness inside a space visited by millions.
From the other side of the world, with a dream and a camera, I came for that one perfect image.
And I got it.
