Description
We were almost an hour into the drive south from Port Douglas, heading back from a tropical escape that already felt like a dream. The road wound lazily along the coastline, framed by lush rainforest on one side and glimpses of the Coral Sea on the other. The kind of drive where you don’t say much. You just take in the silence, the scenery, and the slow unwinding of holiday mode.
Somewhere just south of Oak Beach, we pulled over, stretched our legs, and walked across to the Rex Lookout.
Rex Lookout is an absolutely breathtaking spot that leaves you in awe. The panoramic views of the coastline are stunning, with the turquoise ocean meeting the rugged cliffs in perfect harmony. It’s the kind of place where you can stand for ages, just soaking in the beauty and the sense of calm it brings.
Overhead, the sky was a deep, uninterrupted blue. One of those Far North Queensland skies that doesn’t seem real until you’re standing under it.
There was no wind. No sound but the sea. And no one around except my wife, Mrs Smith.
We didn’t stay long. Just enough time to take a few photos, breathe it all in, and leave it untouched.
A perfect farewell to the north.
